Application in water treatment
Compared with other traditional separation projects, RO separation process has its unique advantages:
(1) The pressure is the main force of RO separation process, without the phase change of energy intensive exchange, the energy consumption is low;
(2) Ro does not need a lot of precipitant and adsorbent, so the operation cost is low;
(3) The RO separation project is simple in design and operation and short in construction period;
(4) Ro has high purification efficiency and friendly environment. Therefore, RO Technology has been widely used in domestic and industrial water treatment, such as desalination of seawater and brackish water, production of medical and industrial water, preparation of pure water and ultra pure water, industrial wastewater treatment, food processing and concentration, gas separation, etc.

Desalination of seawater and brackish water
Since 1960s, RO desalination has become an important way to obtain drinking water and an effective way to solve the shortage of fresh water resources. RO desalination technology is mainly used in two aspects: desalination of seawater and desalination of brackish water.
About 30% of desalination plants in the world are realized by RO Technology. More than 99% of salt ions in seawater can be removed by RO membrane to obtain potable fresh water. Israel's ro seawater desalination technology is relatively advanced. In 2005, Ashkelon built the largest ro seawater desalination device in the world, with a water yield of 3.3 × 105m 3 · D-1, accounting for 15% of Israel's total water demand, and a water production cost of about 0.53 USD · m-3. The largest RO desalination station in China is located in Chinghai County, Dalian City, with a daily fresh water output of 1000m 3 and a fresh water cost of 6 yuan · m-3.
Brackish water is widely distributed in the north of China and contains many salt ions. It can be desalinated by RO Technology to meet the drinking water standard. The demonstration project of Malian River Basin uses the brackish water resources around the upper reaches of Malian River, adopts RO membrane technology, establishes 1000m3 · D-1 brackish water desalination project, the quality of the effluent reaches the national drinking water sanitation standard, and effectively solves the drinking water problem of 50000 residents in Huan Xian city. Hangzhou Bay New Area water plant] adopts the combined equipment of ultrafiltration and RO to treat the high salt water of the local reservoir, which has been put into operation for more than one year, and the water quality is stable, meeting the national drinking water quality standard. He Yuwen, Yao Hongyi, Sun Wei, etc. have all carried out the experimental research on the treatment of brackish water by RO. The desalination rate of the system is more than 95%, and the quality of the effluent is better than the national drinking water standard.
Desalination of seawater and brackish water is the traditional application field of RO Technology. The existing problems are still high operating pressure and high energy consumption. In addition, Cl - in seawater also pollutes RO membrane greatly, which hinders the further promotion of RO Technology in this field. RO membrane with low pressure, low energy consumption, anti pollution and anti-oxidation is under active research and development in order to fundamentally solve the problem. [3]
Preparation of pure water and ultra pure water
Hengyang pharmaceutical factory of Tsinghua Zhiguang Guhan group has improved the original all ion exchange water production process by adopting ro + mixed bed water treatment technology. During operation, the water production has increased, the water quality has improved, and the cost of water production has been greatly reduced. In addition, many researchers have carried out experimental research on the preparation of pure water by RO + electrode ionization, which has achieved the expected results, and confirmed the feasibility of the preparation of high-purity water by RO + electrode ionization.
Different purity desalted water can be produced by controlling the order of ro. With the increase of RO stage, the purity of desalted water is improved, but the water output is reduced and the water utilization rate is reduced. Therefore, the RO device will not exceed the second stage in general. Generally, the RO is combined with the electrode ionization technology, which not only overcomes the shortage that the RO effluent cannot be completely desalted, but also improves the water quality of the electrode ionization device, prevents the damage of the electrode ionization device, and improves the overall water purification efficiency Fruit.
Industrial wastewater treatment
Industrial wastewater treatment is one of the most widely used areas except for desalination and pure water preparation. Industrial wastewater treatment has multiple meanings such as reducing production cost, protecting environment and realizing wastewater resource. Due to the high requirements of RO membrane for water inflow, when ro technology is used for advanced treatment of wastewater, it is often combined with sedimentation, coagulation, microfiltration, ultrafiltration, activated carbon absorption, pH adjustment and other pretreatment processes.
